About the Courses
The UKCC coaching programme gives coaches the opportunity to update and develop in ‘new’ coaching techniques, which will support their players’ development.
The minimum operating standard for coaches working in the professional game is UKCC Level 3, and there are now 38 qualified Level 3 coaches and 100 more on the programme.
At the pinnacle of the coaching pathway is a two year programme that leads to a Level 4 UKCC qualification and a Post Graduate Diploma in Elite Coaching Practice from the University of Central Lancashire.
The first coaches graduated from this programme in December 2011.
The current candidates on this programme include Steve McNamara, the England Head Coach; Darryl Powell, Head Coach of Featherstone Rovers , Richard Agar, Head Coach of Wakefield Wildcats; Dennis Betts, Head Coach of Widnes Vikings and Keiron Purtill, Head Coach of England Knights.
A survey conducted with our coaches showed a total of 62% of qualified coaches completed formal workshop based continual professional development. 80% of coaches in the professional game are now on a formal course to up-skill their coaching knowledge and to meet operational requirements.
Qualification
Once you have successfully completed your qualification, you will be licensed to coach for a period of 3 years. The license will only be revalidated after that period if you are able to evidence Continual Professional Development (CPD)
The responsibility for remaining fully and appropriately licensed rests with you, the coach. Failure to meet the conditions of the licence will mean that you will no longer be able to coach although your qualification remains valid. If your licence does lapse, the only way back onto the coaching system is to enrol and complete another coaching course.
What do I need to do?
For a full listing of the development opportunities available through the Coaching section, please go to the coaching revalidation section.
